With the film 5 is the Perfect Number (Propaganda Italia, Jean Vigo Italia and Rai Cinema) Igort restores the grace of Cinema, showcasing all his expertise as a connoisseur of visual arts, music, photography, comics and of course cinema. Exemplified by the sculptor-like precision of light, the meticulous reconstruction of interiors and the costumes perfectly designed and cut on the characters, fully in tune with the actors who wear them. And These are certainly extraordinary actors: Toni Servillo, Carlo Buccirosso, Valeria Golino, who in the film precisely characterized all of their roles. Even the youngest actors were up to the task such as the talented Vincenzo Nemolato. “In comics, the control is total, characters don’t argue and everything follows the thread of the story, but when you work with real actors, the process becomes surprising and exciting, Carlo Buccirosso has refined his character of Totò o ‘Macellaio, inventing looks, pauses, even a slight nervous tic, that has donated a poorly concealed ambiguity to him; Valeria Golino gives her female character a fragility capable of creating “incidents” that destabilize, but from which wonders can be born; Toni Servillo immediately entered into the heart of the story, for me the character of Peppino Lo Cicero has been him from the beginning. The work on the photographic image with Nicolai Brüel was fundamental in the use of cuts, shadows that sculpted the characters and scenes, backlights, and even silhouettes. Furthermore the original score by D-Ross and Startuffo is a harmony of counterpoint that perfectly envelops the scenes. The story as described by Igort himself sees Peppino Lo Cicero, an old-timers killer, as the protagonist, who starts questioning everything once his son gets killed. But the story is also a medium to radically explore human relations, the ambition of consciousness, the brutality that we live every day even without being killers. Whether or not there is a real possibility of redemption we might find out only at the end. That is why we can’t wait for Igort to tell us about it in person, when he will present the film at the Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione!
