City Deep è l’undicesimo film atteso in Kentridge’s Drawings for Projection, una serie di film d’animazione disegnati nell’arco di 30 anni, con protagonista Soho Eckstein. La transizione politica del Sudafrica dagli anni violenti dell’apartheid alla democrazia, pone le basi per una saga di perdita, amore, rabbia, compassione, colpa e perdono. City Deep is the anticipated 11th film in Kentridge’s Drawings for Projection, a series of animated films drawn over 30 years, featuring the protagonist Soho Eckstein. South Africa’s political transition from the violent years of apartheid to democracy, sets the scene for a saga of loss, love, anger, compassion, guilt and for giveness. |

L’opera cattura ciò che si vede fuori dallo studio dell’artista: una tempesta elettromagnetica di fine estate. Per un lasso di tempo prolungato si susseguono nel cielo una serie di scariche elettriche, la cui percezione è amplificata dal lavoro in postproduzione; questo paesaggio, falsamente immobile, emana forze ambigue e non precisamente definibili. The work captures what the artist sees outside his studio: an electromagnetic storm during the end of the summer. For a lengthy time-frame, a series of electric discharges follow one another. The perception of the discharges is amplified by the artist’s post-production. This landscape, charged with mystery, emanates ambiguous and not entirely definable forces. |
